It’s a joke, really it is. He’s not scared of ghosts, mummies, snakes or murders. Maybe startled. It’s certainly not Gus’s fault he was raised to express himself! Sure, he thought he was afraid then, but he wasn’t. Real fear was a trail of blood. Real fear was a serial killer targeting your best friend. Real fear followed you into dreams, claiming all your dates were lies. Claiming the one that should be sleeping beside you was the wrong gender, your gender. That it wasn’t friendship binding you to an attention hungry compulsive show-off. But it’s a joke, isn’t it?
